Canis
There are three species known from Tanzania: Canis adustus (the side-striped jackal), Canis aureus (the golden jackal) and Canis mesomelas (the black or silver-backed jackal). Another species, Canis familiaris (the domestic dog) is introduced to the country. Jackals are omnivorous and found in a variety of habitats.
