Description

The red nose and prominent cusps on the teeth of this rodent are characteristic.

Distribution

Ranging in the forest belt from Guinea to Kenya and Angola to southwestern Tanzania, Oenomys hypoxanthus is not a true forest species but can be found in secondary growth, forest clearings, cultivation along forest road verges, borders of marshes, and montane forests with broken canopies and dense undergrowth up to 3,000 m.
