Hylomyscus anselli can be differentiated from H. denniae by the presence of only 6 mammary glands instead of 8 (pectoral pair of teats are absent). H. anselli has a well defined subsquamosal fenestra in the otic region (

Distribution

Hylomyscus anselli occurs in more southern African mountains from the central Angolan highlands through the disconnnected mountain chains in northern Zambia to western most Tanzania (Ufipa Plateau) from a known altitudinal range of 1220-2300 m. (Carleton & Stanley, 2005) (Carleton et al., 2006)
